Disposal of textiles

Material security, comfort and increasing longevity of life and easy availability of not only basic goods are today standard in the richest countries, which include Poland. At the same time, they bring new challenges, among which an important role is played by overproduction and, consequently, the generation of huge amounts of waste, which is a worldwide problem. For decades, efforts have been made to reuse waste, from municipal to industrial products, including textiles. Their proper management has been recognized by the European Union as a pressing issue, resulting in new regulations that apply to all member states.

Wtórpol - expert in textile waste disposal and recycling

Modern installation

Wtórpol company has over 30 years of experience in clothing recycling. Innovative approach to the management of textiles allows us to use each type of textiles in one hundred percent. In order to make this possible, investments were necessary, thanks to which today we have modern and efficient installations with a capacity to process up to 216 thousand kilograms of waste per day, equipped with systems to reduce dust emissions and technologies for recovery of raw materials. We guarantee the ecological and effective management of textile waste in accordance with Polish and European Union standards.

Manufacturing process

The Wtórpol plant in Skarżysko-Kamienna receives 84 million kilograms of textiles annually, which undergo a complicated sorting process. After separating the clothes in the best condition and those made of homogeneous materials (cotton and wool), which are returned to the economy in an unaltered form or as cleaning cloth, the remainder, which is textile waste, is sent for processing into alternative fuel. Two modern processing lines are used for this, each equipped with a shredding machine along with a system of infeed and outfeed conveyor belts. The equipment cuts and mixes the waste to the appropriate granulation. During the process, metal components are recovered from the clothes, which are sent to steel mills as a secondary raw material.

Alternative Fuel

A way to dispose of textile waste is to convert it into alternative fuel. Its advantages are its low price and high calorific value, comparable to hard coal. Importantly, only used clothing is used to produce RDF fuel, without the use of chemical additives. This allows us to produce low-cost energy from waste, for which there is currently no other way to manage effectively on a mass scale. Our alternative fuel is regularly tested for quality and compliance with European standards, as evidenced by an EU certificate of compliance with sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction criteria.

Opportunities and challenges

Textile disposal is currently both a problem and a challenge for local governments and businesses. At the same time, it represents an opportunity – when used in the way Wtórpol has been practicing for years, onerous and unmanageable waste can be turned into a low-cost source of energy necessary to meet people’s needs. Instead of draining dwindling fossil fuel resources, once produced goods are no longer useful, they can be used in the economy, while contributing to environmental protection. To make this possible on a larger scale than today, investment is needed in systems that allow the use of RDF fuels, many times cheaper and easier to obtain than traditional energy sources. If you are looking for a safe and environmentally friendly way to dispose of textile waste, we invite you to cooperate with us.
